New IdentityTheft Scam

1. Shred event: The Better Business Bureau of Coastal Carolina and Shred 360 are hosting “Secure Your Id” Shred Day, a national event created to promote awareness about identity theft and fraud protection. On Friday, the free shred event will be at Fayetteville Technical Community College, 2723 Fort Bragg Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be in the Center for Business and Industry parking lot. Attendees are limited to three boxes (copy paper box or smaller) or three bags (kitchen trash bag or smaller) per vehicle. Binders, binder clips, paper clips, staples, rubber bands or CDs/DVDs do not need to be removed.

2. 31 Days of Love campaign: The Cumberland County Public Library is participating in the 31 Days of Love campaign during October. Each branch is hosting pet-related programs and accepting donations of pet supplies for animals at the Cumberland County Department of Animal Control. Several branches also will have pet adoption events. They are:

• Oct. 11: 1 p.m., North Regional Branch, 855 McArthur Road.

• Oct. 19: 10 a.m., Hope Mills Branch, 3411 Golfview Road.

• Oct. 21, 1 p.m., West Branch, 7469 Century Circle.

• Oct. 26, 1 p.m., Bordeaux Branch, 3711 Village Drive.

3. FSU homecoming parade: Fayetteville State University is accepting applications for the 2019 Homecoming Parade, which is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. To obtain an application, go to the university’s website at and click on “Find More” under Homecoming.
