Nevada tops report for most digital identity theft in nation

New IdentityTheft Scam

NEVADA (KTNV) — Nevada tops another list, but this one is not the greatest to be leading.

Reviews.org released a report on Thursday detailing the states with the most and least digital identity theft.

And Nevada came in as No. 1 overall for having the most digital identity thefts.

With crime data, the in-depth review website says it has noticed regional or population-based patterns that cause one state to have more crimes than another. But identity theft likelihood is a bit scattered.

While individual states are at higher risk than others, there doesn’t seem to be a pattern.

How to avoid online identity theft

Nevada ranks No. 32 on the most populous US state/territory list, yet it has the highest reports of identity theft and personal data breaches.

Florida has the third-highest population and the second-highest identity theft likelihood. And remote Alaska, which comes in at 49th for population, takes the third spot.

On the other end of things, Iowa has the fewest reported incidents of identity theft and personal data breaches. Yet it is right above Nevada in terms of population, according to the report.

No matter what you do, you can’t 100% protect yourself against identity theft. However, the site says to keep an eye out for potential identity theft, and the more diligent you are, the less likely you’ll find your identity for sale on the dark web.
