North Plainfield Police Department 15th Annual National Night Out and Public Safety Vehicle Expo Set for Aug. 7

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The North Plainfield Police Department’s Annual National Night Out Against Crime Celebration and Public Safety Vehicle Expo will be held on Tuesday, August 7, from 6 to 9pm in the municipal parking lot across from the Municipal Building at 263 Somerset Street.  This year will be the event’s fifteenth anniversary since inception.


All borough residents are invited to attend and meet with the department’s personnel.  The North Plainfield PBA will be hosting a barbeque with free hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian ices and sodas for all in attendance, and party favors for the community’s children.

Plans include a display of public safety emergency equipment from the North Plainfield Police Department and the North Plainfield Fire Department, and the Somerset County Emergency Response Team will display equipment from their tactical and dive/rescue elements.


Handouts and pamphlets will be available on topics such as domestic violence, gang awareness, identity theft, block watch associations, crime prevention, and DARE.

A document shredding truck will be on site, courtesy of Safeguard Document Shredding of Manalapan, New Jersey.  Borough residents will be permitted to bring at no cost two shopping bags of private paper they would like shredded to safeguard against identity theft.   Several guest artists will entertain Borough youth with music and face painting, as well as community organizations such as, the North Plainfield Library, EmPower Somerset, NJ Department of Child Protection & Permanency (DCPP), and the North Plainfield Municipal Alliance and Youth Services Committees.

National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watches.  The event is expected to attract more than 30 million people nationwide.  The idea of the program has evolved into fostering a partnership between local law enforcement and the community residents.
