As the recent hacking of the Colonial Pipeline demonstrated, no one’s computer is completely secure. So how can you protect your personal information and privacy online? Richland Library is offering some free expert help.
The library is hosting a free seminar Monday featuring Cedric Wright, program assistant and outreach coordinator for the SC Department of Consumer Affairs.
Wright will discuss the best ways to protect your personal information and security online. He will also explain what identity theft is, steps to protect yourself, safeguarding personal information, and what to do in the event of identity theft.
The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs Identity Theft Unit’s mission is to inform consumers about the steps they can take to protect themselves from identity theft, how to spot if they are a victim and provide tailored remediation and guidance to identity theft victims.
The library event, “Protecting your good name: identity theft scams and solutions,” starts June 7 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
Admission is free and open to all, but advance registration is required. Visit richlandlibrary.com to sign up.
A Zoom link will be sent to participants’ e-mail addresses prior to the event.
